2 | Continent Boxes
1 | The Trivium Tables are the maps we use for Geography at CC (Classical Conversations). They are laminated which allows the children to trace them with dry erase markers and then wipe them clean to trace again. There is one trivium table for each of the three cycles. Right now, we are using cycle 2. They trace the continents, countries, cities, rivers, lakes, oceans or whatever combination the teacher focuses on for the day. By the end of CC, the children will be able to draw from memory the continents and even include some or all of the countries, depending on the child’s skill level.
2 | We will finally be making Continent Boxes this year! I’m so excited to share this traditional Montessori material with my children. Stephanie at Discovery Moments has a wonderful set of Continent Boxes on her blog. Learn more about her Continent Boxes here.
3 | This is one of the most popular trays in our school room. The boys just love mixing Geography and Science and this is a perfect way to do it.
4 | We have to be careful how we spend our money on Montessori materials. As you know, it can get really expensive. Instead of investing in a Montessori World Map puzzle, I purchased the Montessori Print Shop version and we use it all of the time. It’s even used in our Zoo Animals & Where They Live tray. MPS’ set comes with a colored/labeled, colored, b&w line drawing/labeled and b&w line drawing versions. MPS also has a free World Continents – Pin Map Flags and Map Set available on their site.
5 | This was a gift from my mom to John Robert and it is VERY well-loved. He started off taking it apart and putting it back together with my help. Then, he started putting it back together by himself and now he has learned the names of the states too. It’s especially fun because it gives little visual clues about what the state is known for or what the state bird is. It prompts questions and promotes interest in learning more.
Today is my 3rd Blogiversary. I can hardly believe I’ve been blogging about our Montessori journey and our family for 3 years now. I have a special treat planned for you guys next week, which consists of a blog post a day featuring some of your favorite bloggers. I can’t wait to share it with you, because these bloggers are quite amazing. Have a great weekend! See you back here on Monday. xo, Lori
Now it’s your turn to share your favorite Geography materials. (Or any other materials you’re feeling right now.) Leave your link in the comments and I’ll add it to the post.
