Oh, please let today last forever because it’s been nearly perfect. We’ve learned together in pure bliss and agreement. We’ve held long hugs and celebrated great accomplishments in our little homeschool. I’ve looked both of the boys in the eye and told them how proud I am of their hard work and how smart they are. This is how it’s supposed to be…or atleast how I wish it was every day.
Homeschooling is harrrrrrd and it’s not for everyone. But then I have these days where I admire my 6 year-old’s gorgeous handwriting (thank you sandpaper letters) and I hear my {just barely} 4 year-old say letter sounds correctly, write the letters and sort objects by sound. It’s then that I see the fruits of my labor. And theirs. John Robert can name the parts of an animal cell for heaven’s sake! And yes I’m bragging a little, but isn’t that ok? Can’t we celebrate and share our childrens’ strengths? We have to relish in these great days, because they don’t come along everyday.
My favorite thing today? Realizing that even though my baby is now a big 4 year-old, he’s still my little mess-maker. Seriously, who can get that much marker on his shirt just from writing letters in a notepad?!

Thank you sharing. I too enjoy the homeschool days when it seems all the planets are aligned in my favor. New to homeschooling this year; it is hard. However; there are the days, like you wrote about, that make the sacrifices worth it. One of my memorable days, yes I have a few to choose from, was today. I’m the proud home school parent of a 9 and 4 year old. In language arts, we are currently reading Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh. My 9 year old son and I have not be able to put the book down. It is such a great story. Today, I decided to read the next two chapters with my 4 year old daughter; mainly because my son had already read ahead without me. My daughter has been loosely following along with us or so I thought. When I asked her a comprehension question about one of the characters introduced a few chapters back, she answered immediately and was correct. Even her brother, who much like me doesn’t impress easily was impressed. I shall think back upon this day and that moment and others with gratitude and pride knowing that the seeds I continue to fertilize and nourish have taken bud and are flourishing.
I love it! What a perfect day. Thank you for sharing it. You’re kids sound amazing and smart and wonderful. It makes me smile. :) Oh, and thanks for the book recommendation!
Hi Lori!
It is so nice to read your blog again. I have been very busy with my 2 boys with Montessori homeschooling. They are 6 & 11 now. I dont post on my blog anymore but I post their work on facebook.
Lori, what ideas do you have to inspire my 6 yo to write? This is not his favorite activity.
:)
Hey Evelyn. I’d love to give you ideas…I actually have a ton that might be too much for the comments section. Do you mind if I write a post for you?
