Zoo Animals & Where They Live

To get ready for our Zoo Field Trip, I created a tray to help the boys become familiarized with the names of the animals and where they live.  This tray includes a free printable I created to share with you, plus 2 {very economical} supplemental materials.

Materials:

  1. Safari Ltd Wild Toob (purchase at Hobby Lobby with 40% off coupon)
  2. Print Color & B/W Line Drawing Maps by Montessori Print Shop – World Maps
  3. Orange, Pink, Gray, Green, Red, Yellow & Brown Crayons or Your Media of Choice

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Lay out Zoo Animal Cards, Match Wild Toob Animals to Cards and then put away
  2. Take out Color & B/W Line Drawing Maps, color Line Drawing to Match Color Map
  3. Sing 7 Continents Song (many options on Youtube) while pointing to continents on map
  4. Place animals on the continent they live in.  This information is easily searched on Wikipedia.

The Montessori MOMents Zoo Animals Cards can also be printed twice to make 3 part Nomenclature Cards.  Simply cut the second set’s words separate from the image.  For instructions of how to use 3 part cards, visit Montessori Print Shop here.  I’ve been really lucky lately in finding works that the boys adore.  This one is definitely a winner.  I hope your children love it too.

  3. Wonderful. Gosh once I again i must say how blessed I am to have come across your amazing blog. I have not been back to my blog in a very long time:( So busy with trying to figure out homeschooling, schedules, and co ops. I am happy to say I did cancel 2 activities that we did not neeeddd. It was tough, however, I feel I need to be more present with the angels then taking them everywhere to do everything!
I know our mangos will love this work!!!

    • I agree…it’s so easy to get caught up in all of the activities and play dates. I have learned to say no and cut way back. I find it more peaceful and happy when we have time alone and home to learn together in a relaxed environment. I’m so blessed to have readers like you who give unlimited support and remind me that this blog is worth all the hours of work! :) I hope your mangos have fun with the Zoo Animals Material. Happy homeschooling!

  4. Lori,
It’s so nice to see your two boys work together. I just planned to prepare Animals of each continent together with coloring continents activity and you reminded me about outlined Montessori Print Shop site maps. Your post is right on time for me. It’s great I found your blog. I really enjoy watching your beautiful boys:)

  5. Cool idea! We’re just starting to study geography, I never though to incorporate animals. We may do that in a few months. Thanks for sharing such a great tray set up.

  6. When you get to the point that you are emailing the pdf’s out, could you please send them my way? My grandaughter would love these.
