Homemade Poptarts

I was feeling a little down today, so my sister came over to cheer me up.  We made homemade poptarts.  They are so easy and delicious.

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 350.
  2. Roll out refrigerated pie crust dough (just a little) with a rolling pin.
  3. Cut into desired shape.
  4. Place on a greased cookie sheet or cookie sheet with a silpat.
  5. Place a tablespoon of filling in the center of each cut piece.  You can fill with jelly, Nutella, fruit or whatever else you can dream up.
  6. Rub egg wash around the edge of each dough piece with finger.
  7. Top with another cut piece of dough.
  8. Crimp edges with fork and poke holes in the top to release steam.
  9. Cook on center rack for 30 minutes.

{Apple Pie Filling: apples diced small, sprinkled with sugar, flour and cinnamon}

{Nutella}

{Chocolate Covered Strawberry Filling:  strawberries diced small topped with Nutella}

Wouldn’t these be a cute snack for Valentine’s Day?  Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter and fill them with Nutella or the chocolate covered strawberry filling.  The best thing?  They are extremely kid friendly and my boys loved rolling out the dough, using the cookie cutter and placing the filling.  JR & Asher approved.  :)

    Yeah, JR had two and was asking for more! Had so much fun yesterday! Next time let’s try jam again…

    Those look so delicious. I’m going to give them a try this weekend. Bryan said he’s expecting them for breakfast tomorrow. That would mean going to the store at 6 am tomorrow. He can dream on….

      hahaha. Yeah, dream on. :) They are super yummy and easy to make. I think you’ll really like them. If you do jelly, you may want to try freezing little portions in an ice cube tray and then putting the frozen jelly in the tarts. Jen and I had a problem with the jelly melting too fast and leaking from the poptarts. Let me know how it goes.

    These cookies are even better a day or two after they are prepared – the cookies soften and meld with the filling.
